Wright’s Wisdom: Part One

Though I haven’t been alive as long as people I consider mentors and gurus, I have had the privilege of learning life lessons from a slew of people, young and old, tall and short, social pariahs and business magnates alike. This past week I had the pleasure of learning from life’s earliest teachers: Women. Nurturing, patient, and perceptive, women can show a man a lot of what he fails to see in himself and additionally show him a lot of what he already possesses. After a few talks with various women from different walks of life I left with several nuggets of knowledge, most of which cannot be spoken but felt and understood. I will sum up the four major things I got from it in the hopes it helps others.

  1. Emotion is a Useful Motivator
  2.  Intimacy is Multifaceted
  3. Simplicity Is Reality
  4. Judgment is Weakness

Emotion is a Useful Motivator

The origin of the word emotion can be traced to its French and Latin meaning which both define the word as to “stir up, agitate, or move“, all of which are necessary components for action. Emotion or energy in motion is something we all possess and use, both also something we rarely strive to control. The process begins with thoughts that turn to feelings which lead to actions. The things we do stem from the emotions we’ve created which means we should be ever vigilant of how we are being led to feel. Women all too frequently are ridiculed for dwelling on their emotional nature but the extreme of not being in tune with them is equally damaging. Balance is essential for us as individuals and even more so as women and men with intrinsic traits and roles assigned to us.

In the end both sexes stand to learn from the other. There are times in life where we can benefit from introspection, times where the only way to get clarity is to focus intently on how you are feeling. The energy used in a lot of cases to avoid issues could equally be used to solve these same issues and prevent them from fostering later. On the other hand there are times when too much introspection and attention on issues can equally be detrimental. Our feelings can liberate us as well as imprison us and if we give them too much rein instead of controlling them they can manipulate us.
