CashusKing and Jeff Johnson's newest project, Poetry in Motion, perfects their powerful prose and gives listeners nuggets of knowledge.

Poetry in Motion is another gem from the musical duo.

For Leimert Park emcee CashusKing, 2022 has been a year of reflection and rediscovery as he’s grappled with the bitter pill of success and personal loss. With Jeff Johnson II, who serves as Cashus’ manager, 2022 represents his return to emceeing after a series of personal challenges.

Left with few options in front of them, the duo’s taken on sharing their pain with their fans through the release of several individual projects such as HeavenManEarth and The Weight of Wind and, in Jeff’s case, “The Johnson Way”.

Their newest project, Poetry in Motion, billed by Johnson as a “mega blend”, adds another chapter to their collective body of work and provides perspective in these times.

The opening sample on the power of poetry helps anchor the project and sets the tune. Cashus’ bars are as sharp as ever, packed with lines that reflect his feelings of melancholy, hopelessness, and hope.

“The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit,

I light a blunt, no smoke when we toke, we let it go and see the ghost of the homies spirit

Not the dro, when I say it loud, I know the homie hear it,

Rest in Peace Chris, I repeat this.”

Jeff’s bars towards the end of the album on the current state of gun violence in America add more texture to the feelings of nihilism and anger black people feel in the world.

“I’m feeling unfulfilled, I’m feeling naked,

And trauma lasts forever, it’s a shame you can’t shake it.

I ain’t buying that shit, cuz mass killings happen too often

Are we saving for the future or are we saving for our coffins?”

PIM, which is eleven minutes long, concisely covers a range of material and allows the duo the proper space they need to talk about this year and the years to come. For longtime fans of the duo, familiar producer Cinematagraffiti handles the production and preserves the project’s sound.
